The Hero and the Outlaw written by Margaret Mark & Carol Pearson is an insightful book about tapping your brand marketing into mythological stories. The ideas is that all cultures have the same mythological stories (a la Joseph Campbell) with which and all customers can identify (consciously or subconsciously). Linking your brand to one of the archetypes brings it vitality it would otherwise not enjoy.
